PDH UNITS: 3
This two-session course, "Natural Gas and Liquefied Natural Gas Safety Moments - A 52-Year Technical Look Back of Learnings", explores safety principles and operational challenges in LNG facilities and gas transmission and distribution systems. Participants will analyze critical case studies, understand key technical concepts, and learn best practices for mitigating gas and cryogenic system risks. The course integrates real-world examples, regulatory guidelines, and the latest engineering methodologies to ensure operational safety and reliability, from pipeline rupture dynamics to frost heave prevention.
Learning Objectives
At the successful conclusion of this course, you’ll be able to identify and discuss:-
- Understand LNG Risk Factors: Explain the causes and impacts of phenomena like pipeline ruptures, LNG stratification, rollovers, and BLEVEs.
- Analyze Case Studies: Evaluate past incidents (e.g., Texas City Refinery, Cleveland LNG Explosion) to identify safety gaps and apply lessons learned.
- Apply Safety Protocols: Implement procedures such as LOTO, frost heave prevention, and emergency response to prevent system failures and ensure worker safety.
- Evaluate Operational Hazards: Assess risks associated with LNG transport, storage, and transfer, including issues related to thermal expansion, differential pressures, and gas composition.
- Enhance Safety Culture: Promote a robust safety culture through technical knowledge, procedure adherence, and proactive hazard identification.
- Utilize Engineering Standards: Apply relevant regulations, such as 49 CFR Parts 192 and 193 and NFPA 59A, to ensure compliance and safety in plant operations.
- Develop Crisis Mitigation Plans: Prepare for emergencies using proactive measures such as communication protocols, equipment maintenance, and redundancy systems.
