Engineers are often asked to be expert witnesses in civil suits, or to simply provide services for mediation and forensic investigations. Join Dr. David Williams to learn what to expect when asked to participate in legal processes or forensic investigations, how to prepare, and how to minimize your business’ exposure to possible legal actions. Dr. Williams will outline how engineers should conduct as expert witness during depositions and trials representing yourself as a competent witness who is in control, reputable, believable, and most of all, an unbiased knowledgeable witness. Additionally, we’ll discuss related topics that will help you be an ethical, effective, and credible professional engineer. Dr. David Williams brings his experience as an expert witness in over 25 court actions. In this course Dr. Williams will discuss ethical conduct and the role of the expert witness as a non-advocate. We’ll explore what is expected behavior throughout the process, how to handle pressure, and how to prepare for mediation, deposition and trial. Please note: this ethics course is intended to fulfill the annual ethics course requirements for professional certifications and registrations. Video presentation included.
