When: Wednesday 9/25, 2 - 4 pm ET
After the collapse of structures in Florida and Iowa two states in the US have moved quickly to make legal changes to try to avoid future collapses. These structural integrity laws have been regarded favorably in several other states and it is probable that they will be reflected in similar laws throughout the USA. Other countries have had similar but different problems and have introduced a legal framework to attempt to obviate the problem. There are systematic problems with the entire system approaching this problem. Most of these problems are considered in this presentation including the approach to the assessment and measurement of risk as well as the effect of a changing environment. Even at this early stage it is apparent that some unforeseen problems have already become apparent. These are discussed as well as the unexpected (and largely forgotten ) lessons of structural engineering throughout history.

The Instructor presented two hours of information without modulating his tone. This made concentrating on the importance of the presented material difficult, at best.
Different than most structural seminars. This one takes a deep dive (in my opinion) into risk, code development, and future structural inspections long after the building/structure is completed. Course primarily applicable to large buildings where a collapse would result in many deaths/injuries. For small structures, it is unlikely that owners will do follow up/future inspections. Course bordered on information overload and I am still trying to get my head around some of it. Two comments on slides which I see in PDH courses. No one numbers the slide pages. Everyone uses pretty slides with colored backgrounds, so you waste all of your ink printing them instead of presenter just using a white background. Finally, the course quizzes on Ncite have been a problem on two occasions. The quiz window does not open so you can take the quiz after the presentation which is very aggravating.
A Very interesting and informative presentation
