Dr. Alan Peter Jeary, Ph.D. AO, DSc (Eng), FRSN, FIStructE FIEAust, FAIB, FRMetS
I worked in full time research in the UK at CERL and at the Building research establishment. At BRE I undertook a very large research effort on the induced vibration of large structures. I shook forty structures of different types. I worked 25 years in academia first in Hong Kong and then in Australia. I was awarded a chair in Hong Kong. I have produced over 300 papers on Structural dynamics, Building and Building Surveying topics. I was awarded the Telford Gold medal in 1981 (top prize worldwide in Civil Engineering - together with colleagues Brian Ellis and Roy Severn). I have a Higher Doctorate in Structural Dynamics from University College London (A higher doctorate is awarded only by a few elite universities for a fundamental contribution to an area of science). I have subsequently moved to the US to form a company doing work on structural dynamics commercially. STRAAM operates successfully in Structural Health Monitoring. I am a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Australian Institute of Building and the Royal Meteorological Society. I referee for six different international journals. I was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday honours in 2015 (an Australian equivalent of a British knighthood). I am now a Fellow of the Royal Society (New South Wales Branch).
