Intended Audience: electrical engineers and electrical maintenance technicians

PDH UNITS: 3

This course includes specific requirements for poles and structures, pole-mounted equipment, and aerial lines. Requirements addressed include pole handling and erection, climbing and working on poles, stringing of lines, working around pole-mounted lighting and other equipment, tool handling, and tree and brush trimming adjacent to an aerial line right-of-way. Additional safety requirements are needed for aerial line work since climbing poles is often necessary. Not all work can be accomplished from aerial lifts. Electrical workers must both recognize electrical hazards, and be trained how to prevent falls. This includes training in safe climbing procedures when the structure design cannot accommodate optimum fall protection load requirements. Course Outline 1. AERIAL LINE WORK 2. POLE HANDLING OPERATIONS 3. POLE INSTALLATION, REPLACEMENT, AND REMOVAL 4. CLIMBING AND WORKING ON POLES 5. POLE CLIMBING EQUIPMENT 6. POLE CLIMBING AND WORK PRECAUTIONS 7. CROSSING STRUCTURES 8. STRINGING OR REMOVING DEENERGIZED CONDUCTORS AND OVERHEAD GROUND WIRES 9. ENERGIZED WORK 10. STREET LIGHTING 11. WORKING ON OR NEAR POLE-MOUNTED EQUIPMENT 12. AERIAL ROPE 13. TOOLS 14. AERIAL LIFTS AND INSULATED BUCKETS 15. TREE TRIMMING AND BRUSH REMOVAL This course provides introductory information about electrical safety when working with aerial electric power distribution lines.
