Intended Audience: Structure and Civil engineers
PDH UNITS: 4
The objective of this course is to assist a licensed design professional, practicing structural engineers, forensic structural engineers, consulting engineers, building officials, educators, students or/and a licensed general contractor to deeply know, and understand the seismic analysis, design, and construction of special reinforced concrete moment frames based on ASEC 7-22 and ACI 318-19 codes. The importance of this course lies in the fact that there are not a sufficient number of references dealing with this topic, so the course was designed to be an important guide for the structural engineers those working in this field.
Learning Objectives
At the successful conclusion of this course, you’ll be able to identify and discuss:- Gaining a general overview on when to use special moment frames
- Gaining a general overview on the importance of frame proportioning
- Gaining a general overview on the slab wall precast structures
- Gaining a general overview on the strength and story drift limits
- Gaining a general overview on the principles for design of special moment frames
- Gaining a general overview on the design a strong-column/weak-beam frame
- Gaining a general overview on the detail beams and columns for ductile flexural behavior
- Gaining a general overview on the avoid nonductile failures
- Familiarizing with the analysis guidance : analysis procedure, stiffness recommendations, and foundation modeling
- Familiarizing with the design guidance: load and strength reduction factors, beam moment strength and longitudinal reinforcement, joint shear and anchorage, beam shear and transverse reinforcement, and column design and reinforcement
- Gaining a general overview on the special inspection : special inspection of the placement of the reinforcement and concrete by a qualified special inspector
- Gaining a general overview on the additional system design requirements: structural diaphragms, foundations, members not designated as part of the seismic force-resisting system
- Gaining a general overview on the construction examples to illustrate detailing requirements for constructability.
