This course is intended to provide education and review of building assessment, methodology, challenges, design and construction to prevent failures, forensic engineering and actual case studies as it relates to Evaluating and Maintaining Structural Integrity of Florida Buildings. Review of actual case studies in identifying building issues, learning from past mistakes by engineers, architects, contractors and others, building evaluation procedures and challenges that engineers will face in their daily practice. This course will also provide guidelines and suggested procedures when engineers face difficult situations during evaluation and maintenance of existing buildings structural integrity. The course will touch on engineer’s duty of care, legal aspects related to negligence and failure to maintain a standard of care and consequences. The objective of this course is to educate and enhance knowledge to engineers and architects as it relates to: “Evaluating and Maintaining Structural Integrity of Florida Buildings’ set forth by Florida Statutes, guidelines and requirements of the Board of Professional Engineers and review actual case studies to learn from prior mistakes and avoid a building failure or collapse including guidelines and procedures during building structural assessment, engineer’s duty of care, elements of negligence and liability by violating engineer’s legal obligations and certain rules which may cause loss of human life, building damage and loss of an engineer to practice engineering.
