This course is intended to provide guidance for the design of coffer dam structures. Coffer dams are temporary structures constructed to control river flow and permit navigation during construction of a permanent dam or dam and lock structure. Geotechnical considerations, analysis and design procedures, construction considerations, and instrumentation are discussed. Special emphasis is placed on all aspects of cellular coffer dams, such as planning, hydraulic considerations, and layout.
